Week 1 – My first impressions
Oct 12th, 13th
I was nervous. We met Linda. She is our assistant. She is very kind and understands English easily. The residents were also nice and kind. On the first day, we danced with the residents. It was very fun. The next day we took a walk in the park in the morning. And we played board game. But I couldn’t win even once
Week 2 – Learning on the job
Oct 18th,19th
We decorated the windows and walls in Chartwell for Halloween. After that, we serve the lunch for residence. After lunch, we played new board games. We have to explain each game for them. It was difficult for us to do. However, they are kind. They try to understand, even if I can’t explain it well. Next day, we walked at McArthur Island park with them. We talked many things with them. I and Satsuki cleaned handrail first floor to 6th floor. It was hard for us. After that, I ate the lunch. They gave us the chocolate pudding. It was delicious. After lunch, we serve cakes for residences. I wanted to eat a cake. We played board game. I won the game for the first time.
Week 3 – A fun activity with clients
Oct 25th, 26th
We carved three pumpkins for the first time. It was hard work, but fun. I finished my work as usual, and there was a pizza party. but I had plans, so I went home.
Next day, We did exercise with the residents in the morning. After that we made mats out of plastic bags. I got very sleepy because I continued same works about a hour.
We ate the lunch of there. It was very delicious. It was great to have dessert as well. In the afternoon we had a good time dancing and handing out snacks. Satsuki and I also went to eat fish and chips with some residents at 4:00. The assistant paid for our portions. After that we attended the pumpkin light event. It was beautiful with many designed pumpkins. It was fun to see some cute ones.
Week4-Cleaning Day and Nailed
Nov 1st,2nd
Yesterday was Halloween and I put away the decorations. It was very hard to clean up where I was instructed. After that, I helped serve lunch. After lunch, it was time for dancing. The music was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep. The next day, I got my nails done for the first time using manicures. It was embarrassing, but I was happy that they said I looked cute. After that, I cleaned for about an hour. It was very hard.
Week5-More talking to residents and Birthday Party
Nov 8th,9th
I made mats out of plastic bags. The repetition of the same work was brain dead. I was very tired. After lunch, we sang songs with the residents and talked about our favorite season.
Today, in the morning, we all cleaned the railings. After that, we played games with the residents. We had a birthday party for those who were born in November. I was able to eat a sweet cake. It was very delicious.
Week6- Breakfast and Decorate for Christmas
Nov 15th, 16th
I went to breakfast with the residents. They provide free food there. I had pancakes, bacon, and an omelette. All were delicious. After eating, I went outside and saw that it was snowing. The four of us tried to do a 500 piece puzzle, but we couldn’t finish it at all. Nezt day we did Christmas decorations at the Senior Center. It was very tired to carry the tree and decorate the ceiling with ladders. We had an Italian dish called frittata for lunch. It was very delicious.
Week7-Final days in Senior Care Center
I had to go to the university in the afternoon, so today’s fieldwork ended in the morning.
Today was the last day of fieldwork. We spent the morning decorating for Christmas and had lunch. It was very delicious. After that we had a dance. Then I got a surprise gift, a thank you note, a letter, and a present. I opened the box and found a pair of gloves and a knit hat. I was very happy. I gave the letter to the person who had taken care of me. She read my letter and cried. I felt sad when I saw that. I had a very good experience and memories. I will not forget these memories and their kindness. I am really grateful to them. I will take good care of what they gave me.
